about

The Grid Match is the study of typography in relation to chess through the discovery of the hidden grids formed and traced by the movements each player made during their match. The focus of my study was based off of the top 10 chess matches ever played.

I designed a book showcasing my findings where each spread represents one match. Each spread is laid out using the hidden grid formed by the match itself. The content included in each layout is based on how the match unveiled along with some general information of each player. Additionally, I created a cubic lamp using shapes generated by the grids and morphing them together creating abstract geometric letterforms. These letterforms were also used in designing a responsive poster that reacts to light.
